ELGREGOE's Lesson

  

Elgregoe the Magician visited our school today to not only share his fantastic magic tricks with us but to reinforce the lesson of helping hands. At Yaldhurst we show these five really important words through our actions, thoughts and words. We are Respectful, Helpful, Trustworthy, Responsible and Caring. Through these 5 things we ensure that we look after each other and that everyone feels safe and happy while they are at school.

Some of our children were able to help him with his magic tricks. Thank you so much for sharing your words of wisdom with us. We will remember to use our WIT! (W = Walk Away, I = Ignore, T = Tell an Adult, S = Stop)

Easter Hats Under Construction!

It is Easter Fun Day here in Rimu. We have started making Easter hats with a lot of different materials. Can't wait to see what all the children create!

New Furniture in Rimu!

Excited much!!! We were so excited this afternoon as we got delivery of some new furniture for our classroom. The order was placed at the end of last year and we have been waiting patiently for it to be made. We couldn't believe it when the truck arrived this afternoon with it.

Many of us helped unload the light weight items.

Once it was all unloaded, the children excitedly helped to unpack it.

Some of the new tables have whiteboard tops and children couldn't wait to write their names on them.

We love our new furniture. Now Mrs Taylor and Mrs Spragg need to move a few things around in the classroom so things fit better but we just couldn't wait to use them.

We're Going to be on TV!

A What Now film team came to see us today. Luis and Simon were here to film us playing Ki-O-Rahi, a fantastic traditional Maori ball game.

This all came about because last year our Student Council helped introduce the game to our school and to other schools in our cluster. Ki-O-Rahi has been played in the North Island for years but it is fairly new for the South Island and our children were instrumental in teaching others about the game.

Hannah was the host for the segment and she did a fantastic job. We learnt a lot about programme making, especially about how a 3 minute segment can take up to 3-5 hours to film and about how many takes have to be done in order for them to get the right shots. 

We can't wait to see the finished segment. We don't know when it will be on yet but we'll let you all know once we do.
