A Brilliant End ...

Well, it is the last day of Term 3 and what a term it has been. I think you will agree from all that we have blogged about, that we in Rimu have had an extremely busy term but a really fun term. I would like to thank all the children for their amazing work, for their determination to succeed and for being fabulous HERO's. You have made us all proud!

We said goodbye to Rihanna today and we wish her well at her new school in Nelson. Rihanna keep being amazing, we are going to miss you.

This term we have been reading the book Refugee by Alan Gratz. This is an absolutely brilliant book.

It is a woven tale of three children who lived in different centuries and who have to leave their homelands due to war and oppression. We have loved hearing about the struggles,  friendships and about their strength as a family. We refused to leave school this term until we had finished the book but we know that those children who were away today would have wanted to hear the end too, so here it is ....

Have a happy and safe holiday and we will see you back in Rimu on Monday 15th October :)

Reward Time

Yaldhurst children love to show their HERO values to others both inside and outside the classroom. When they are exceptional HEROes they receive a HERO card.  At the end of the week, all the HERO cards are counted and children work together in their houses to try to reach 300 cards. When the houses reach 300 they get to choose a reward. This week was reward time for all the houses.

Hilary House chose to have a dessert party with some free time.
Edgar House chose to try some new games online.
Rutherford House chose to bring a toy from home to play with.
Ormsby House chose to have a disco.

Ka pai Yaldhurst HEROes, keep up the amazing work!

Our Student Council Wows Christchurch Schools Again!

Our Student Council were part of the Christchurch Primary Schools Health Forum. This is a chance for schools to come together to share what they have been doing to support health and well being in their schools and to get ideas from others.

The Student Council have been conducting an appreciative inquiry into our school Hero Values to see what the children across the school understand about the values. They presented  what they have found out so far.  They made videos of some of their work, a presentation and pamphlets to support the values.

Next term they are going to look at how they can help get the messages of being a Healthy Individual, Enthusiastic Learner, Responsible Citizen, Open Minded Explorer and what these mean, to some of our younger classes.

Way to go Student Council!! You are really helping to lead our school forward.

Crusaders Country

 .
The Super Rugby Season might be over for another year but we are very proud of our Canterbury Crusaders who were crowned Super Rugby Champions for 2018. We were "super" excited to have the Super Rugby Cup at our school on Thursday for us to have our photo taken with it. Thanks Barbara for bringing it in! We are some very happy Crusader Supporters!

Ki-O-Rahi Tournament

I had the pleasure of taking this awesome bunch of children to the Uru Manuka Ki-O-Rahi Tournament this afternoon.

This is the second year the tournament has been run, and this year it was held at Gilberthorpes School. The children had a lot of fun playing in the tournament and ensured they were all sport HEROes on and off the field.

Well done everyone involved!
