Wellington Camp #3 - A slower day but still busy

We had a good nights sleep which meant we were raring to go today. We started with a Scavenger Hunt which was a bit backwards but it didn't matter. We found some interesting things anyway.

Note: Liam was grumpy and didn't want to be in the photo.

We also ran into someone ... well, actually, he almost ran into Deb.

We soon found a place to eat morning tea and then we headed into the Wellington Museum.

Our main focus was the Wahine Disaster, however, we learnt a bit about Wellington History too.

Then we headed back to the YHA for lunch before our shuttle arrived to take us to Weta Workshop. Mia was very excited about this, in fact, she had watched the Lord of the Rings in prep. We had a little wait so some eye-spy was played. But soon our guide arrived and we were in looking at things. We couldn't take any photos inside the actual tour, however, we had some fun beforehand. 

We learnt about many processes of the creating and digital side to film and it was fascinating to learn about. We are all convinced that Mika will soon be working for Weta. 

Back on the shuttle to head back to Wellington City. We had Capital E next ... but that is a whole nother blog.

The last day of camp

Slow wake up. More time. No Mt Victoria walk. Celebration! Pack bags. Find things. Lose things. Find things again. Breakfast. Make lunch. Flood in a bathroom. Oops. Very wet carpet. Suitcases stored. Time to walk.

Wellington Museum. What was it before? Bonds Store. Ask a student. They know. Explore the first flour. Wellington through the ages. 3 facts and up the stairs. 

Wahine Disaster. Listening. Learning. Answering questions. Watch a film. Moving. Surprising. Humanity is wonderful. 

Final level. Explore some more. Weird and quirky stuff. Make a badge. Time to go.

Walk back, quick march. Get bags. On the shuttles. Airport here we come.

Today's giggles...

1) Tour Guide at St Paul's Cathedral: "We have 14 bells in this Cathedral. There's only 6 Cathedrals in the world that have this many. The bellringers practise on Wednesday nights much to the annoyance of their neighbours watching Coronation Street."

Ten minutes later in a side comment to me...

Gus: "And Coronation Street isn't even on Wednesday night. It's on for 2 hours on a Friday night and 1 hour on a Saturday night." 

2) Tour Guide at Parliament: "Part of an MPs job is to make, amend or remove laws for our country. For example, you guys are Year 7 & 8. Can you leave school?"

Everyone: "No!"

Tour Guide: "Why not?"

Gus, after a moment's thought: "Because you'd need to get organised for it!"

3) Tour Guide at St Paul's: Lifts up the lid to the elaborate looking font (the object where people are baptised/christened from) and says to the class: "Does anyone know what this is? (Referring to the whole thing.)

Gus: "A lid."

After the most hilarious pantomime. Can you spot Maid Marion? Our share price spotting quickly disappeared as more exciting things appeared: the star of the show came to greet us!
