Te Wā Tuku Reo Māori - Māori Language Moment 2021!

Today at 12pm Rimu joined a LOT of other New Zealanders and took part in the World Record attempt for having the most people speak an endangered and indigenous language at the same time.

This was called Māori Language Moment 2021

and last year over 1 million moments were recorded.

Here's a short video of all you had to do, explaining how it works!

We were lucky because at 12pm on Tuesday's we have our Kapa Haka session so wet set it up with our tutor, Matua Anton, and took part in this amazing movement!

Here is our moment that we shared on the reomaori.co.nz website -

And here we are, famous on the 'Share your Moment' page on the website!

Can you spot our post?!

Did you take part in Te Wā Tuku Reo Māori this year or last year?

What did you do?
OR
What would you have done for it?

  4. Hey there Rimu, It's one of your year 9's here!
Been a while since I've last commented, by the looks of it your look into the maori culture seems pretty cool this year, I enjoyed checking out the quick video of a piece from your performance. And I can tell it must've been a good opportunity to get involved in, since being apart of such an outstanding community all making a moment for the maori moment 2021 which seems like a rare opportunity aswell!

How long did it take to learn the Kapa-Haka? Was the Kapa-Haka led by any students? How many people still remember the full performance?

I'd like to know how Yaldhurst is going now and what Rimu has been up to first glance. (Haswell has talk to some of my favorite teachers :) )

    Kind Regards,
From your past year 8 and secret favorite year 9

    1. Hi there Nikita! This is Nishka from Yaldhurst Model School (YMS) <3
Thank you for commenting on Rimus' Blog Post! We are all very happy so we decided to reply to you (well,, our teacher decided to).

Anyway, besides that, it did take a while to learn the Kapa Haka! No students led the Kapa Haka. Only Stella, Angel-Mey are saying the words so people put their hand on the hips and many more.

Thank you for reading my comment (or have already)! I hope that you have a good day and comment back very soon!

  5. Hi Nikita, How are you going? When we were doing kapa haka this year there is some more kapa haka. Yes some people led the kapa haka and it is Stella and Angel-Mey. For one of the kapa haka songs took us about two weeks to learn. Thanks for posting on our blog.
